Exhausted Mother Squirrel

The Backyard Birds Cuckoo Clock

Squirrel Mom needs a break - she's built a new nest and I'm not sure if she has moved the kittens there yet, but let's hangout with her for awhile and give here some of her favorite sunflower seeds! This is some of the best closeup footage of a squirrel I've ever gotten with a hand-held camera just a few inches away. Mother Squirrel doesn't mind - she's hungry.

Raccoon and Opossum Living in Peace and Harmony

The Backyard Birds Cuckoo Clock
A big Raccoon and a Possum sharing dinner get along just fine, perhaps the bounty of food spread around helps. Another friendly encounter was filmed awhile back at: https://youtu.be/Znpy3whzTcc
I have found one of the "town squares" in the jungle brush behind the Backyard where many paths converge and cross so this is a good spot to keep one of these Campark Trail Cameras
https://amzn.to/2VQ8Hz0 the trick to such clear video at night at close range is putting a sheet of plain white paper over the IR lights to reduce glare and overexposure for close subjects. Note that this video was really taken in January 2019 in Florida the date on the video is wrong. Enjoy!

Beautiful Boat Tailed Grackle

Boat Tailed Grackles are actually quite stunning and intelligent birds when seen out in the wild foraging in the morning sun. Their feathers constantly change colors and shimmer blue, green and purple. If you have only seen them in the cities you are in for a treat. Also check out this handsome BT Grackle: https://youtu.be/o9lzzwGlBaY
They are primarily a bird of the southeast coastal areas and prefer marshes and wetlands. These birds forage on the ground, in shallow water, or in shrubs; they will steal food from other birds. They are omnivorous, eating insects, minnows, frogs, eggs, berries, seeds, and grain, even small birds.
Boat-tailed grackles have established significant populations in several United States Gulf Coast cities and towns where they can be found foraging in trash bins, dumpsters, and parking lots.
This bird's song is a harsh jeeb, and it has a variety of typically grackle-like chatters and squeaks.

Savannah Sparrow

Savannah Sparrows are a winter visitor to Florida - a striking sparrow with delicate head details and a sweet little call. Identified by a small yellow patch in front of the eyes and a narrow white stripe on top of the head. This one sat still for several minutes which is rare, allowing for a clear capture of this species in some nice morning sun.

Rather than being named for its penchant for grassy areas, the common name of Savannah Sparrow actually refers to the city of Savannah, Georgia where the bird was first documented.
Savannah Sparrow (Passerculus sandwichensis) is the most widespread and abundant wintering sparrow in southeast Florida, occupying a wide variety of habitats that include mangrove edges, saltmarsh prairie, and weedy fields. Like many grassland sparrows, this species uses short chip notes when alarmed, warding off intruders, or approaching its nest. A typical chip note is a soft, hissing tss.

Northern Cardinal Singing and Defending Territory

The sound of a Male Northern Cardinal 🐦 whose hormones are stirred up as he spends his days now singing all around the Backyard and generally being in a bad mood otherwise. It is such a lovely song!

Squirrel Cubicle Meerkats or These Squirrels Are Up To Something

Squirrels just like dogs "wear their emotions on their sleeves" and these two popping up and down peering over their fence/cubicle are acting either very inquisitive or pretty guilty - what could they be up to as they wait for me to leave? Put you best guess in the comments! Its not like these squirrels don't know me I feed them all the time, but their plotting something......

Greater Yellowlegs Amazing Alarm Calls

Greater Yellowlegs are Sandpipers with distinctive long yellow legs and are usually mellow birds but this one decided it didn't like me and let loose with continuous alarm calls.
