Limpkin The Calls and Sounds of Florida's Loudest Bird

Limpkins are Notorious for their shrieking, crying and screaming calls especially by males during the breeding season where they can call all through the night. They are right up there with sand hill cranes as Florida's loudest bird! Limpkins are the only living species in their family, Aramidae. They look like rails or cranes but DNA testing has confirmed that they are a unique family unto themselves. Florida is the historical northern limit of the limpkins range where they are year-round residents. they were nearly driven to extension in the early 20th century but they have been thriving recently and gradually expanding northward.
