Chickadees!
Chickadees - just Chickadees for a change. A rare chance to have food to themselves except for one brief visitor. In the Great Smoky Mountains Black-capped and Carolina Chickadees ranges overlap and it can be a challenge to tell them apart. What type of Chickadees do you think these are?

Black Capped Chickadee in Eastern Hemlock Tree
Video: Black Capped Chickadee in Eastern Hemlock Tree
A Black Capped Chickadee eating larvae on an Eastern Hemlock Tree in the Great Smoky Mountains. Nice to get a shot of a Chickadee eating natural food and also working to give the Hemlock Tree a little help as they are endangered trees in the high mountains. Chickadees feeding don't sit still long.

Back Capped Or Hybrid Chickadee In Great Smoky Mountains |
This Chickadee is having a great time and there is a special guest appearance at the end you'll want to stick around for. Positively ID'ing this bird is a bit of a challenge - I am not an expert birder by any means. Here is a great resource on Chickadee identification. This bird is at 4000 feet elevation in the Great Smoky Mountains where the Black-Capped Chickadee is know to replace the Carolina Chickadee or to possibly coexist. This is a bit of a rough looking bird (in a nice way) with a large messy bib and is likely the Black-Capped Chickadee or perhaps a hybrid?
