Haunting Screech Owl Calls For Halloween

A most amazing recording of a female Eastern Screech Owl calling in an unusual manner was captured during this years breeding season as she was sitting on three eggs. This is probably a type of contact call with the male outside in a nearby tree - but is unusual for a Screech Owl call. With dozens of hours of recordings this is the only time I can recall the rhythmic trilling going on for so long. The original recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-p-ec-DHlw was captured live and lasts almost an hour with approximately one minute between calls. The original video audio trace is shown below.  This short two minute video Haunting Screech Owl Calls for Halloween - contains highlights of the extended live recording and was made by editing together the first 18 consecutive calls of seven seconds each compressed in time. The audio trace of this shorter video is shown below. Also, and audio trace of an individual call is shown below and each of these calls contains more than 70 segments. You can see the owls entire body shake as she makes these amazing calls! Enjoy......

Song Sparrow Nest and Song

Male Song Sparrow sings from a nearby tree while mother Song Sparrow sits on three eggs in a nest well-concealed on the low branches of a small Norwegian Spruce Tree. The classic call of this Song Sparrow male has a nice sharp and clear Smoky Mountains variation. I found an angle to film the nest with a tripod down low. Hopefully will be able to watch them hatch and fledge in the coming weeks. I believe this sparrow is the one that had a failed nest earlier in the summer.

Relaxing Nature Meditation: Chuck Will's Widow Calling and Tree Frogs Croaking !

Relax to 25 minutes of Chuck Will's Widow Calling and Tree Frogs - just sound - too dark for video to show up. One of the more unusual and repetitive bird calls - it only calls for a few days before dawn and in the evening - usually in late April or Early May in Florida to find a mate then it is totally silent most of the year. After getting about five minutes of the calls for an early recording I captured this nearly 30 minute continuous recording of the calls between 530 and 6 am in the morning. These calls will either lull you off to dreamy sleep with memories of yesteryear and/or Nature in general - or they might just drive you nuts - there seems to be no middle ground on the calling of the Chuck Will's Widow!
