Entertainment Video For Cats and People - Chipmunk in Forest

Entertainment For Pets and People. 30 minutes of nonstop furry action by this cute, expressive, over-acting, and dare I say, gluttonous Chipmunk in the deep forest of the Great Smoky Mountains. Includes forest backdrop and bird sounds with wind and weather.

Winter Trees - A Poem

Winter Trees - A Poem

Sometimes we forget to look up - and contemplate the meaning of the patterns we see. I found this poem that fits this scene in the Great Smoky Mountains perfectly. It is only in winter you can appreciate the intricate details of a tree to the very tips of its branches.

Winter Trees

All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.

Forest Mouse at Night

Strictly nocturnal, this hyperactive mouse lives in the deep forest and has found food left for the Flying Squirrels and makes fast dashes for food when the squirrels aren't there - rarely lingering in the open as it is on the low end of the food chain. The exact species of mouse is unclear as even generic house mice live in forests. The nighttime sounds of the forest echo in the background.

The Real Bigfoot

The mysterious "Bigfoot". High in the Great Smoky Mountains in an Old Growth Eastern Hemlock forest at 4000 feet elevation lives a creature that has evolved to stand on two huge feet incredibly out of proportion to the rest of its body and attached to powerful legs to take advantage the unique primordial forest environment - it runs incredibly fast and makes amazing jumps to escape. I was fortunate to capture a video of its feet from just the right angle and have given this Creature the name of "Bigfoot"

Male Hairy Woodpecker In Deep Forest

A special treat to capture any woodpecker in the deep
wild forest that has not seen people.

A special treat to encounter a male Hairy Woodpecker in the deep forest. These birds are very shy in their natural environment. I was fortunate to see (hear) this one without it seeing me and that the auto-focus stayed locked on through the dense cover. The Hairy Woodpecker is almost identical to the Downy Woodpecker except considerably larger and with a thicker bill. The Downy's (who were also present this morning) often announce their presence with calls, the Hairy's generally do not, you just hear them knocking on wood!
