Ruby Throated Hummingbird Preening Session


Yes, Hummingbirds do stay in one place for awhile so we can watch them - while they are preening and sleeping. This male spends more than 5 minutes cleaning himself up and stretching after spending the morning protecting "his" nectar feeder. Early August is prime hummingbird season up in the Great Smoky Mountains as breeding is over and they build up their strength for the big fall migration.
