White Winged Dove Song

The White Winged Dove doesn't really sing "ooh ooh ooh" but rather "Who Cooks for You" somewhat similar to the Barred Owl, but at a lower volume and pitch. Dove songs and calls are often mistaken for owl sounds as they have a distinctly nasal quality. In fact much of the sound Doves make is through the nose - here is a great example of a Mourning Dove calling close up: https://youtu.be/3Km-jtXueTw

Painted Buntings in Slow Motion

Painted Buntings will soon be returning to Florida for the Winter. Here is a little slow motion action from last year to wet your appetite. Of course there are cameos by the Blue Jays and Squirrels.

Riley Raccoon Eats A Big Breakfast - ASMR

Riley the Backyard Raccoon eats a big crunchy breakfast. He shows up every morning in Florida around 9 AM. Riley is in no hurry. After a hearty breakfast Riley spends the rest of his day sleeping.
The sights and especially sounds of an animal eating can be unusually relaxing and/or stimulating to some people - called Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR). In any case, Riley is fun to watch and I'll work on getting him to use his utensils and do better at drinking out of his glass.

Amazing Sounds of Red Shouldered Hawks Calling

The sounds of Red Shouldered Hawks always get me excited! Three Red Shouldered Hawks calling very long, loud and emphatically in some sort of communication issue in the Florida Backyard. Perhaps a little family drama is going down. Like most big raptors the Red Shouldered Hawks pay little attention to the humans below when they are going about their business.

Meet Mother Squirrel

Breakfast with Momma Squirrel. There are at least two Backyard Squirrels with kittens in early September - some of you will remember this squirrel with a "bite" missing from here ear in this video where she has a habit of flopping down and chilling out: https://youtu.be/u9gmblM4emg She is my favorite squirrel and best "actor" for the camera.
