I really enjoyed taking the Canon ZOOM Digital Monocular on hikes it weighs next to nothing and fits in a shirt or jacket pocket or I just carry it in my hand with the wrist strap ready for action. It is clearly not a professional camera system but is great for recreational use and packs and carries so small, light and easily and lets you catch special moments you might not get with just your phone or lugging around heavy expensive professional gear. Sometimes you want to focus more on your environment and take in the sights and sounds without obsessing over carrying the perfect, latest, expensive gear. Just get out there and have fun. I'll do an update on Backyard Birds with the monocular in the future.

I have a Canon R6 with big zoom lens, but don't take it with me on hikes very often. I'd rather pack the Canon SX70 climbing mountains and hiking or now this monocular if video is not my number one priority on a trip.
