Painted Buntings have been increasing in the Backyard this past week as birds from south Florida are migrating through here on their way north and our local birds probably have or are leaving soon - not to return until mid-October. So now is a good time to savor these most beautiful of all North American songbirds.

The four Screech Owlets are growing fast - you wont get a closer look than this. Peak action is usually around 8pm EDT when it gets dark. This live feed URL will stay the same until they leave: https://www.youtube.com/c/MyBackyardBirding/live
Father Red Morph Eastern Screech Owl spends his days in a cypress tree overlooking the nest box where mother owl and the 4 owlets are waiting for him to bring lizards and other goodies starting at dusk. Mr Owl needs his rest he works all night - Mr Owl is a good Dad - Mr Owl doesn't appreciate Mr MBYB pointing the camera at him while he's trying to sleep so I'll move along. I've developed a special relationship with one of the Mother Squirrels, its all about trust I think, sort of like being accepted as once of their community. She just relaxes and acts totally natural while I talk to here just 2 feet away and gives body language that comes right through the camera lens and that usually only other squirrels would see.

At first I thought this was Mother Raccoon but after getting a better look I think it is father Raccoon who doesn't have a whole lot of interest in his progeny. But he is a friendly guy to have around and also known as the laziest raccoon in the world: https://youtu.be/HGqrYEnxrNg

Live Eastern Screech Owl Nest Camera Live Stream. Mother Screech Owl incubates the eggs and feeds the owlets. She leaves at dusk revealing the eggs and owlets and then returns and the Father owl brings lizards and various other treats throughout the night. First Owlet hatched on 3/31, the second on April 1st - the third on April 2nd, the remaining egg should hatch on the 3rd or 4th or it will be too late. They will fledge or leave the nest around the end of April probably around the 26th or 27th.
This link will always take you directly to the live stream until the owlets fledge in late April: https://www.youtube.com/c/MyBackyardBirding/live
Although this URL stays the same every once in awhile the stream resets and starts over with a fresh chat and numbers count which is unfortunate but you can be assured you are always on the current live stream with the link above. After a session ends it is turned into a YT video for posterity and can be replayed including Chat comments.
You can also get to the live feed from the main MBYB YT page where it will be highlighted when live: https://www.youtube.com/MyBackyardBirding
You can launch the YT miniplayer from the bottom right below the red line which will open up a dedicated window so you can watch the owls while doing other things on your PC.
If you miss something that happened in the nest box or want to catch up this stream has DVR enabled, so you can back up the video as much as four hours. Hover your mouse pointer over the red timeline at the bottom of the screen and move your pointer over it to decide how far to back up. Then click “LIVE” (just below the red line) when you want to return to the real time stream.
