The Pileated Woodpeckers are finding some huge high-protein grubs or wood boring beetle larvae in that rotting tree stump they've been working on and hearing the activity of the grubs helps the woodpeckers find them. They are smart and use the old stump like a stockpile. Rather than tear it all up at once they are working it slowly and come back for more grubs that will grow in it. Sort of like a grub warehouse!
