Squirrels deal with the extreme hot temperatures and humidity of a heatwave by "chilling" out during the heat of the day to conserve energy and spread out their limbs in a process called splooting to maximize body contact with cooler moist wood, stone or metal that hasn't been heated by the direct sun yet they also pant as you see in this example and change position often to get a cooler spot. The constant calling of the Fish Crow family is not helping, they and all the birds are hot to, so provide clean fresh water for your Backyard birds and mammals especially now.
