Scrub Jays (Corvids) Swallowing Stones

The Florida Scrub Jay is a threatened member of the corvid family primarily due to habitat loss and is the only bird endemic to Florida. They are very gregarious and family orientated birds, even more so than their cousins the Blue Jays. Here a group of 4 to 6 of them are picking little stones just the right size from a gravel trail in the scrub to hold in their crops for grinding up food to aid digestion.
Crows and Ravens (big corvids)  of course swallow much bigger stones see them at: https://youtu.be/yqs5xCD7-oE
