Blue Jay's Perfect Imitation of a Red Shouldered Hawk Call

A shy Blue Jay virtuoso – this video is all about the sound - the Jay nearly precisely imitating the call of the Backyard Red shouldered Hawks and constantly practicing, improvising and expanding his repertoire of other calls and songs. I overlaid the actual red shouldered hawk call with the Blue Jays interpretation and one would be hard pressed to tell the difference, even the cadence is the same and they sound almost as one. This Jay tends to hide when he practices, likely because the noise can attract attention and in the middle of Winter when there is no real reason to sing or practice singing he just enjoys it and he needs to stay in the dense oak tree cover for safety. He just loves to sing.... He tried his hawk act out on the last remaining feral cat who was unimpressed.
