A Coopers hawk is one of the few avian predators stealthy and agile enough to hunt for birds in the dense jungle undergrowth. Here a small clearing near a major animal trail intersection is one of the few open places and attracts birds and small mammals as well as the predators who prey upon them. Coopers Hawks have a preference for doves, especially the bigger White Winged Doves. They hold down larger prey like these big doves until they pass then fly away with them.
