Spoiled Chipping Sparrow Baby

Mother Chipping Sparrow continues to feed her newly fledged young on day three out of the nest. But one youngster remains totally dependent and is being seriously spoiled. I put a mark on the little one's butt/feet and it literally does not move one inch in over five minutes standing on a pile of seeds while mom frantically runs back and forth to feed it. It's siblings have moved on.

Mother Robin Weaning Fledgling - Tough Love

American Robin Weaning Fledgling  - Tough Love. The fledgling Robin is now as big as its mother who has introduced it to the joys of suet. But now the fledgling is still following mom around and eating suet like a champ. The expression in the eyes of the mother Robin says it all - its time to be on your own. This video captures the moments when the Mother Robin chases off the fledgling and lets it know its on its own. The suet feeder is not big enough for both of us!

Eastern Towhee Fledgling

Towhee's are on of my favorite backyard birds they display a unique personality and sing their hearts out all day long. Two young Eastern Towhees recently fledged are learning to scratch for their food just like their parents. You can hear one of the parents calling continuously nearby - they have one of the more distinctive calls of eastern U.S. birds. The fledgling were still being fed by the parents at this time.

Video of their Dad making the classic "Drink your tea..." call.
