Japanese Garden Nature Meditation

Relax, enjoy and heal!  10 minutes of pure healing natural bliss, running, still and rippled water, sand and rock, birds and many other animals, trees and flowers, wind and sun and much more all set to a soothing ambient soundtrack.
Filmed at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. Contemplate the place in the world of the smallest animal you will see - much smaller than the head of a pin, the gentle ripples made by a diving turtle, and the quiet beauty in a creature that many people find "scary".....

The 16 acres that surround Morikami’s two museum buildings include expansive Japanese gardens with strolling paths, resting areas, our world-class bonsai collection and lakes teeming with koi and other wildlife. The wider 200-acre park features nature trails, pine forests and picnic areas.
Each garden is intended to express the character and ideas of a unique counterpart in Japan without attempting to duplicate those gardens, and seamlessly flow together as one garden.
Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, with its unique gardens and collections, is one of Palm Beach County’s most treasured cultural attractions. Located in a tranquil natural setting, Morikami invites visitors to explore its many facets and discover Florida’s heritage and its connection with Japan.

Japanese gardens (日本庭園 nihon teien) are traditional gardens that create miniature idealized landscapes, often in a highly abstract and stylized way. The gardens of the Emperors and nobles were designed for recreation and aesthetic pleasure, while the gardens of Buddhist temples were designed for contemplation and meditation.

Japanese garden styles include karesansui, Japanese rock gardens or Zen gardens, which are meditation gardens where white sand replaces water; roji, simple, rustic gardens with teahouses where the Japanese tea ceremony is conducted; kaiyū-shiki-teien, promenade or stroll gardens, where the visitor follows a path around the garden to see carefully composed landscapes; and tsubo-niwa, small courtyard gardens.

Japanese gardens were developed under the influences of the Chinese gardens, but gradually Japanese garden designers began to develop their own aesthetics, based on Japanese materials and Japanese culture. By the Edo period, the Japanese garden had its own distinct appearance. Since the end of the 19th century, Japanese gardens have also been adapted to Western settings.

Relaxing Nature Meditation - Dark Skies and High Surf in Florida with Ambient Music

The storms of November bring high winds and seas, rough surf and dark skies to the east coast of Florida. Not a typical day at the beach, but the expanse of the sky and the raw power of the sea are worthy of contemplation as are the small subtle details such as the foam and seaweed and the layers of currents as the tide expends its energy on the shore. You might notice that the horizon is not level as the tripod was knocked by the waves early on - somehow the askew view of the horizon is appropriate on a day like this. The soundtrack "Hydra" is courtesy of the YouTube Audio library. This video was taken during the afternoon high tide on November 25th, 2013 during a "High Surf Advisory".

Video: Small Mountain Stream Up Close - Cool and Greenl!

Cool Mountain Stream Relaxing Nature Meditation

It's been unusually wet in the Great Smoky Mountains this summer. This is a close up video of a small, cool, fast running mountain stream surrounding by a sea of green plants that thrive in the wet environment. This stream is primarily spring fed year round but swells with runoff during rainy periods. Relax and enjoy this short meditation - especially nice after a hot summer day!

Relaxing Nature Meditation - Summer Mountain Thunderstorm

Video: Summer Mountain Thunderstorm

Relaxing Nature Meditation - Summer Mountain Thunderstorm

Relax to the sounds and sights of a passing July thunderstorm in the Great Smoky Mountains. Rain...Thunder...Wind and bird calls as the weather begins to clear and the mountains reappear from behind the clouds. As the rain tapers off to a drizzle the dominant sound will be a rain-swollen fresh mountain stream below. Not the call of the Eastern Towhee and Carolina Chickadee.

Owl Watching - Nature Meditation

16 minute HD Video - Owl Watching at its best.

Male Eastern Screech Owl Guarding the Nest Box
Male Eastern Screech Owl Guarding the Nest Box

The male Screech Owl has a favorite position to guard the nest box with the mother and 3 owlets inside. Now that the owlets are getting bigger the female has been leaving the nest during the day to cool down and rest. The male will do most of the hunting during the night. Here we see just 16 minutes of his day long vigil - these small owls only expose themselves to such danger when they are nesting. The other 10 months of the year you would never see this guy. Squirrel Who think its an owl
Squirrel Who think its an owl
The 2013 Screech Owl season is progressing perfectly according to plan. The male spends his days hidden and resting and will do most of the hunting for food tonight. The female is now spending the day out of the nest because it is getting too crowded and hot with the three fast growing owlets. She is where she can see the nest box and come to the rescue of the owlets if need be. Two of the owlets are now perching and looking out on their new world. Fledging should begin early next week. Amazing and precious little creatures! There is also a weird young squirrel who has taken perhaps an unhealthy interest in the owl parents after discovering their roosts. It is impossible for the squirrels to get at the nest box otherwise they would ruin the nesting season The squirrel is fascinated by the roosting owls - more on that later.

Eastern Screech Owlet Perches and Looks out of the Nest Box

First appearance of the eldest owlet in the nest box perch!

Eastern Screech Owl - Owlet in Nest Box
Eldest Eastern Screech Owlet

Probably due to an abundance of high protein food such as lizards and bugs after a mild winter the owlets have grown incredibly fast in the past few days. Yesterday (April 30th) the eldest owlet made a first appearance at dusk in the nest box entrance. Our first view of those amazing eyes. In the video you will see the mother owl take off from the nest and the two eldest try to look out on the world beyond the box for the first time. The second eldest is not quite big enough to look out but you can see its head next to the eldest. It will be a rainy night tonight we'll see how the owls handle that.

Florida Screech Owl CAM April 30th - Live From the Owl Nest Box!

Live tonight -- watch them grow before your eyes. Seem to be a few days ahead of fledging schedule - may be due to an abundance of high protein little lizards!!

Florida Screech Owl CAM April 29th - Live From the Owl Nest Box!

The eldest Screech Owlet has grown amazingly fast in two days and is now perching beside its mother. The second eldest will likely be perching by tonight - April 30th. The youngest is kind of a goofball spending its time flapping its wings and kicked up wood chips all over its sibling. The broadcast is live every night and then an archive of the activity is posted automatically to YouTube a few hours later. Our goal is to have an extensive documentation of the owlets development. Enjoy!
